Branding

One of the most important,
often most scary,
strangely most complex (if done right)
parts of creating a business

BRANDING

Your business branding is probably the singularly most important decision you can make in business, whether you are just establishing your business, looking to reimagine your current brand, or entirely rebranding your business. Your brand is how your customers will see and view your business in the future. It is how people will see you, how they will first judge you, and most importantly, how they will remember you.

1) The Research

The research stage is one of the most important aspects of the entire branding process. Every decision at every stage needs research, you want to make sure that your potential new brand isn’t taken, you want to make sure your competition isn’t using similar branding, you need to ensure domain availability, you need to establish if there is any negative history associated with the name. Although this process is time consuming it is important.

2) THE NAME

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other word would smell as sweet.”

Who are you? What do you do? How shall I remember you?

The name of your business is the centrepiece of your brand. From today onward, it is how the world will see you, how they will remember you, and the first step in their considerations as to how they will perceive you.

There are many aspects to consider in the name of your brand, do you want it to stand alone, or do you want it to reference what you do? Are you looking to be local, national or international? Most importantly, does it need to be dynamic, for example, persoanlisable to services or locations? These are all aspects of what you need to consider when branding your business.

3) the Website Domain

The website domain, next to the brand name this is probably the most important step. Remember this doesnt want to be too long, the longer the domain the less likely people are to remember it.

There are also a number of important questions to ask yourself, for example: Is the domain available? If not, why not? Which TLD should I choose?

4) THE COLOURS

The logo represents how people are going to see your brand both in business publications and ‘in the wild’. Logos can become iconic, instantly recognisable, and a vital tool in bringing the customers that final step to your business. The sooner you can establish the brand and the logo, the sooner you are building recognition.

6) The Website

In the modern world, your website represents where most of your customers are going to find, interact, and commission your services. The website needs to be on Brand, fresh, modern, dynamic, and prepared for all devices.

The value of a website is now undeniable even for traditionally footfall-based businesses like pubs, as more and more people research the businesses they intend to visit prior to making the journey.

7) The Stationery

The final step. It’s an oldie but still very relevant, we have your stationery. Professional looking stationery automatically helps to express to potential clients that you are a professional, efficient company. Remember your branding is all about portraying an image to the customer.

Lets build a scenarior, a customer is presented with two quotes for a product or service, the first quote is a professionally designed letterhead which matches your colour scheme and branding, and the other is a shoddy, quick, poorly constructed piece of stationery slung together in Word. The customer is looking for a professional business that they are going to entrust their needs to. Which business is the client likely to decide is the more professional and trustworthy?
